The balance is held against a design-approval checkpoint, so you sign off on the direction before you ever pay the second 50%. Scope is the obvious one - a single Facebook ad is not a brand identity, and a brand identity is not a full campaign with packaging and motion. But the surprise for most clients is how much rounds and source ownership change the number. A studio that promises "unlimited revisions" is either lying or already pricing it into a much higher figure.
A studio that quotes you 8,000 taka and "won't share the AI file" is selling you a rental, not a design. My quotes name the round count plainly - usually 2 rounds at the 50,000 BDT tier, 3 rounds at 90,000 BDT, and a discovery-led process at 1,50,000 BDT - and the source files are always yours once the balance is paid.
The other quiet driver is research time. A logo for a Mirpur sweet shop and a logo for a B2B SaaS pitching to Singapore investors look different not because one designer is better, but because the second one needs hours of competitor scanning, audience reading, and positioning work before a single shape lands on the artboard.
