Why a physical Dhaka office doesn't mean your hosting is safe

In Dhaka, a shopfront feels like security. You can find the building, you've seen the desk, you paid a real human in Gulshan or Karwan Bazar - surely that's safer than a developer working from home. It isn't, and here's why. Most small Dhaka "IT firms" don't run servers; they're a few seats reselling shared hosting from a bigger reseller, who's reselling from an actual host - sometimes a cPanel slice from abroad. There can be three or four hands between your money and the machine your site lives on.

The address you can visit has no real control over the server. So when the site goes down, the office can only forward your complaint up a chain it doesn't manage, and that's if the person who originally set it up is still around.

The deeper trap is access. A startling number of Dhaka business owners have never seen their own cPanel or registrar login - the vendor kept it "for convenience." That's fine right up until you want to move, redesign, or stop paying, and suddenly the renewal is late, the password is unavailable, and your domain is quietly being used as leverage.
