What domain and hosting actually cost in Chittagong — and where the markup hides
Domain and hosting price in Chittagong is small money. The expensive part is the lock-in nobody warns you about.
Almost every Chattogram owner who asks me about domain and hosting price in Chittagong has the same story underneath the question. Someone — a local IT shop near the GEC end, a cousin who "does websites," a Facebook page promising a full site for 8,000 taka — set up their domain and hosting a year or two ago. The accounts are registered under that person's email and that person's number.
Renewal time comes, the owner gets a WhatsApp asking for 12,000 or 18,000 taka for "domain, hosting and maintenance," and there is no breakdown. Refuse to pay and the site goes dark. That is not a hosting price. That is a hostage fee. So when someone in Chittagong asks me koto taka for domain and hosting, my first answer is a question: whose name is the account in right now?
Here is the real shape of the numbers, because you deserve them flat. A .com domain is roughly 1,000 to 1,500 taka a year at any honest registrar. A .com.bd, run through BTCL, is cheaper still but slower to issue and worth it mainly if your buyers are domestic.
Solid shared hosting that will comfortably run a business site or a small store is in the range of 3,000 to 8,000 taka a year depending on storage and traffic — and for most Chattogram trading firms, importers, clinics and shops, the lower end of that is plenty. That is the entire honest annual cost of a domain and hosting in Chittagong: a few thousand taka, not the five-figure "package" you may have been handed.
Anything above that is either heavy hosting you genuinely need, or markup someone is counting on you not questioning.
When I build a site for you, the domain and hosting setup is part of the job, not a separate revenue stream I milk. I register the domain in your name, on your email, paid however you like — bKash, Nagad or card. I set up hosting sized to what your site actually needs, not oversold.
I configure DNS, SSL, business email on your domain, and backups, and then I do the thing most shops in Chittagong will never do: I hand you the registrar login and the hosting login and write down what each one is. You own it. If you ever want to leave me, you take your domain and your site and you go — no ransom, no dark site, no awkward call.
To be clear about where the money is: my pricing is for building the site, and that is the real investment. Website builds start at 50,000 BDT for a focused business site, 90,000 BDT for a fuller multi-page build, and 1,50,000 BDT for a larger bilingual or product-heavy site, with fully custom work from 3,00,000 BDT. Always 50% advance and 50% on launch, by bKash, Nagad or bank transfer, and you approve the full design before a single line of code is written. The domain and hosting that sit underneath all of that are the cheap, boring, honest part — and I keep them that way on purpose.
