When off-the-shelf stops fitting and custom starts paying for itself
I'm RH Fardin. Custom means built for your process, not licensed from someone else's.
Most Dhanmondi businesses do not start by wanting custom software. They start by trying everything ready-made first. A foreign POS app billed in dollars that does not understand a half-payment on a credit khata. An Indian school-management SaaS that charges per student and still cannot print the fee receipt the way the guardian expects. A free inventory app that breaks the moment you have two branches off Road 27. The pattern is always the same: the package is 80 percent right and the missing 20 percent is exactly the part your business actually runs on. Custom software development is what you reach for when 'almost fits' has started costing you real money and real hours every single day.
Custom is not automatically the answer, and I will tell you when it is not. If a 990-taka-a-month tool genuinely does the job, buy it and keep your cash. Custom earns its place when your process is your edge, when you are paying per-user or per-student rents that climb every year for a tool you will never own, when your data is trapped inside someone else's account, or when three separate apps that refuse to talk to each other are quietly eating a full salary in manual copy-paste.
For a lot of single and multi-branch operations around Dhanmondi, that tipping point arrives sooner than the owner expects, usually the week a wrong number in an Excel file costs them a real customer.
When custom is the right call, here is how I work, and it is the opposite of how a software house works. I take one project at a time and I am the only person on it from the first call to the final handover. I will come to your Dhanmondi premises, watch a normal hour at your counter or reception, and map how the work genuinely flows before I propose anything.
Then I write a plain one-page scope, you approve the actual screen designs in Figma before I write a single line of code, and the person who agreed that scope is the person who builds it and the person who answers when you message at night. Around five years of doing exactly this for Bangladeshi businesses is why I can scope tightly instead of padding a quote with a 'discovery phase' you pay for.
Pricing is plain and in BDT, no per-seat surprises. The smallest engagement is 50,000 BDT. A focused single-purpose tool or small web app fits my 90,000 or 1,50,000 BDT tiers when the scope allows. A genuine custom software product, meaning a real database, an admin panel, user roles, payment and SMS, starts from 3,00,000 BDT. Terms are always 50% advance by bank transfer or bKash and 50% on launch, with written design approval before development begins. You own the source code and the data outright, so 'custom' never turns into a subscription you cannot escape.
